The products of our company formed in 1988 enjoy an excellent reputation in the construction of corrosion-resistant apparatuses - especially for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry - around the globe. The basis is high competence, enormous experience and methods from internal development in and for the handling of the special metal tantalum and - to a lesser extent - also of niobium.

Due to the unique chemical and physical properties of tantalum and niobium, many particularities must be observed and special aids are needed, for both of which COMETEC has the required know-how, equipment and highly trained employees. Both metals has a cubic space centered lattice structure, high strength and ductility. The corrosion resistance, including resistance to highly corrosive media, is similar to that of noble metals. For example, tantalum when exposed to atmospheric oxygen forms a superficial oxide layer of extraordinary thermodynamic stability. This causes the metal to remain passive to most substances, i.e., it is not harmed by corrosive attack. Exceptions are fluorine, hydrofluoric acid and substances contaminated with fluorides, oleum as as well as highly concentrated alkali lyes. Generally, the metals can be machined and processed by all modern chipping and chipless methods and they can be welded. Particularly with regard to our kno-how, as well as the quality and cost effectiveness of the materials, the manufactured apparatuses and the spare parts, COMETEC is deemed to be the worldwide leader in the field of these applications. Moreover we have a special reputation in delivery reliability.

In the anniversary year, we again expand our product portfolio by the adoption of the new plating method CL-CLAD for tantalum-based apparatuses and the development of new applications for tantalum products in the steel industry. A new building allows us further optimization of production processes and the construction of larger apparatuses. This will give us the best possibilities in coping with the next years requirements according to our slogan "Home of Tantalum".
